Ready to continue serving Mendon, Chittenden, Killington, and Bridgewater.
I am pleased to kick off my campaign for re-election to the Vermont House of Representatives. The last two years have been a tremendous learning experience and among the most rewarding of my career. In addition to being involved in a busy session that produced balanced, meaningful legislation, I truly enjoyed all of the work with
constituents. It was gratifying to be able to follow through to help those of you who called on me for assistance to address a problem in their community or town, cut through red tape at the state level, or pass legislation on issues that mattered to them.
My proudest accomplishment was resurrecting the non-partisan Tourism Caucus. Since Tourism Commissioner Bruce Hyde left the house there has not been a legislative group promoting tourism. I know how important it is to have that voice, and we have already seen positive results in terms of funding streams and attention directed to attracting visitors to Vermont.
Serving on the House Commerce and Economic Development Committee has allowed me to affect legislation on issues that are meaningful to the business community and the economy. Representing both Windsor and Rutland Counties gives me easy access to fellow members serving on all committees so I felt I always had the best information possible going into every vote.
There is much to do next session. We need to ensure that Vermont has a strong, vibrant economy that supports our many small businesses while preserving Vermont’s working landscape and small communities. Energy, healthcare, and education are also top priorities – how we address these issues greatly affects Vermont’s future.
I look forward to continuing to represent you in Montpelier. I appreciate those of you who have already contacted me and I hope to be visiting with all of you between now and November 2nd!
Thank you again for allowing me to represent you all for the last two years and, although I will be keeping in touch via this website you can feel free to call me anytime at 775-0759 or email me at megansmithforvermont@gmail.com.
